News From The Long Earth

est projects

OK, here's a chance to be in right from the very beginning...

Mike, Ken, Gordon and myself have only come together a couple of times as yet but there's something kinda special going on. Bringing influences from all our present and past projects the sounds are building really well.

Already we have three tracks pretty much written - although still a bit ropey - two further tracks ready to roll out and a huge bunch of ideas!

...

Special thanks to Hew Montgomery (for persuading us to start the ball rolling and being our silent motivation) and Hugh Carter specifically for showing there's more to music than "crash boom bang" guitar work.

Our new (first) album will be out this millennium!

THE CIRCLE COMPLETE!

So, recently Long Earth have been looking for a first class lead guitarist to join the ranks - and this week we tried out with not one but three great players!

However we ended up with not selecting a guitarist - we are delighted to bring on board a musical genius!

Please give a warm welcome to our new fifth member of Long Earth, Renaldo McKim! Renaldo is nothing short of a brilliant addition to our final line up as he not only soars like a bird on lead breaks but adds whole new dimensions in terms of his textures and layers!

Welcome to the team Renaldo - now let's get this album finished!

HOW AWESOME IS THIS?

Another great session for Long Earth at the mighty AM Studios in Cumbernauld last night (25.6.15) and we were joined by an old friend & guest - the one and only Yvonne McNiven. This band is turning into a living, breathing version of Glasband 80! With more of the Long Earth magic synergy, Yvonne has sung with Gordon and Ken in various bands - as well as being married to original Abel Ganz guitarist Malcolm McNiven. Very warm welcomes were made all round making up for the 30 odd years since Gordon, Ken & myself had last seen Yvonne. How much gentle persuasion was needed to get Yvonne to step up to the microphone to take lead vocals on one of our tracks? Not very much let me tell you! Welcome back from the wilderness Yvonne!

AND WE'RE DONE!

After a long time in the making (but not by prog standards), our debut album "The Source" is now complete! Although we're slightly biased, it really is sounding genuinely fantastic - a real journey through themes and sounds. Huge thanks again to Hew for all his work, dedication and belief!

Also, massive thanks to Connie Weir for pretty much singlehandedly producing and providing all the the album artwork. What a star!

Optimistically and realistically we're looking at an official launch at the beginning of March 2017 - just in time for the Alan Reed / Long Earth gig at Ivory Blacks in Glasgow on 10th March 2017, so please come clutching your tenners!

The album will also be available to buy online - more details coming soon!

Folks, can you do us a favour please?

If you're kicking about on 10th March can you please consider coming along to this gig. More to the point, if you can make it, if you could book your tickets now it would be appreciated as time's marching on, transport & hotels need to be booked (for Alan's band) and we'd all be grateful of your support - this is the rescheduled date previously in October 2016.

This gig not only sees a brilliant night's worth of music and new album launch from our old mate Alan Reed but also the album launch of our own band, Long Earth. Having heard the pre mixed album, it's bloody fantastic and well worth hearing / investing in - Hew Montgomery has done an extraordinary job with us!
